We are an 8-12 middle school covering both Key Stage 2 and 3.
We have an enviable position on the edge of Shoreham-by–Sea town centre, in close proximity to the port, sea, beach,River Adur and the beautiful South Downs. The exciting city of Brighton is just a bus or train ride away as is the West Sussex town of Worthing.
We have some fantastic facilities which you can view on our virtual tour.We are particularly proud of our ICT suite, our science lab and our new library. Our playing fields and grounds are extensive, offering wonderful opportunities for physical education and recreation.Pupils enjoy sitting chatting in our garden areas and sharing lunchtimes on our patio and shady quads. Our school is full of interesting displays and has a well co-ordinated colour scheme creating a calm, restful learning environment which is well maintained with the help of our premises officer and gardeners
We place an emphasis on English and maths. As headteacher,I am committed to providing a well rounded education and I believe that areas such as art, music, humanities, dance, drama and PE play a vital role in the development of the whole child. These areas are frequently linked together to provide a rich, exciting creative curriculum that is relevant and meaningful.
Our staff are committed to getting the best from each individual at all levels. We have strong special needs support as well as good provision for more able pupils and an excellent team of support staff.
Teachers and support staff have spent time finding out how pupils learn best and lessons take account of the range of learning styles within the class.
We are also committed to developing healthy minds, bodies and relationships, which we manage through our personal, social, health and citizenship education programme. This includes raising pupils awareness of healthy eating, exercise and sun safety.Pupils have a strong voice in the school through our very active school council and through the regular use of circle time activities.
We are widely involved in community activities and our community outreach co-ordinator is always looking at new opportunities and initiatives,as well as maintaining our regular programme of events.Music is a strength of the school with a thriving choir and orchestra. We have also been particularly successful recently in our sporting fixtures such as cross country, tag rugby, football and rounders.
We welcome parents into the school and we have a very supportive Friends of Buckingham(FOBS) and Governing Body, who all contribute to making Buckingham Community Middle School “the place to be”.
Come along and see for yourselves-there is always something going on and you will always be made most welcome by our wonderful office staff.
